The Cleveland Cavaliers are said to be planning on lessening the minutes of their top two players in LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.
LeBron is turning 31 years old and is not getting younger, yet he still manages to play above 40 minutes per game in the playoffs last season; but he showed signs of fatigue in the later games of the finals against the Golden State Warriors.
Kyrie, in the other hand, is coming back from an injury that kept him from helping his team in the finals. He is only 23 years old but he suffered a lot of injuries through his years in the NBA.
Dellavadova has his shares of greatness back in the finals. His hustle and commitment to hard work covers a bit of the loss of their top point guard Kyrie, but it wasn't enough to cover it all. He doesn't have the scoring ability of Kyrie, and so he lacked a big part.
So this summer they did look for a backup that can score a few and can take a few loads off of James and Kyrie, and then there was Mo Williams. A backup point guard who can score and can play off the ball spotting up three's to open up the lane for LeBron. He can be a solid backup to Kyrie to lessen his minutes.
Okay, the plan was good for Kyrie; but what about for LeBron? The addition for the position of small forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers was Richard Jefferson. Yes he can be a backup and can take some of the minutes from LeBron; but will he be effective? Will he play a quality sub for LeBron? I don't think so. Maybe back then when he is still catching those alley-ups from Jason Kidd, but right now is a different story.
For them to be able to execute this plan when comes adversity, they need to shop for a quality backup for LeBron. If not, then Kyrie can seat and watch LeBron exhaust himself.
