Garvo Lanete, a younger brother of Chico Lanete (Barako Bulls), is excited to be a part of the rookie draftees this year. A rumor earlier this year is that Ginebra is the team that is most likely to draft Garvo. Being the most popular team in the Philippines, it added excitement to him (Garvo). Also his former coach in San Beda was the head coach of the said team when the rumors started.
But then his former head coach (Coach Frankie Lim), loss the job after an ugly quarter finals game against Alaska Aces; but yet the rumors stayed. Even though the Ginebra San Miguel has its new coach (Tim Cone), many still believes that the popular ball club will still draft Garvo.
Then the Rain or Shine surprisingly chooses Maverick Ahanmisi at pick number three, the flow of the draft is suddenly disrupted. Ginebra suddenly got a chance to pick Scottie Thompson, and they did it, leaving the NLEX Road Warriors the chance to get their former player. They believed that despite the injury, Garvo will still be a quality player. Being a former player of them, back in the PBA D-League, he would not need a lot of adjustments. And because he is well known by his coach, who is also his former coach in his D-League days, his usage in the basketball court will be maximized.
